Larry the Cable Guy and Growing up Nebraska (Draft)
I've interviewed many artists over the years....from newbies to tried and true old pros, but I have to admit interviewing "Larry The Cable Guy" was truly one of the most fun, uncomplicated and interesting interviews I have ever had the opportunity to do.
Larry, aka Dan Whitney, is not only amazingly witty and spontaneous but also very articulate and humble. No airs, no...."I'm a superstar and your some small town Nebraska radio wanna-be". He was as polite and as unpretentious as one would expect from a guy raised partly in Nebraska and partly elsewhere by God-Loving, ever respectful parents.
Oh course, as a native Nebraskan displaced for almost 20 years in the far-a-way land of Colorado, I have a greater appreciation for those good ole' midwest values so often represented by the good people of North Platte and other communities throughout the state. I attribute much of "Good Life of Nebraska" values to the agriculturally based economy that we depend on. Ag-based economies seemily force families to remain , at some level, intact and focused. It allows children to see that not everything comes with instant gratification and a big gold star.....it comes as a result of hard work, thoughtful consideration and perseverance and even then, it doesn't always work out as planned.

Whether you are a fan of Dan Whitney's 'character' Larry the Cable Guy or not, being a fan of the values that he fosters outside his alter ego, the real man of Dan Whitney, makes me proud to call him a fellow Nebraskan.
Merry Christmas, God Bless You and Your Family and the United States of America.
